Bannerette Peak - 11,500 ft.

Sat. Jul 25 (6a start)

RT Distance: 16 miles

Elev. Gain: 3,900 ft.

Bannerette Peak is an unofficially named peak located in the Ritter Range in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Overshadowed by Banner Peak, the only documented ascent is from Andy Smatko. The 2026 Sierra Challenge should increase the amount of documented ascents on this peak many times over. The trailhead for Bannerette Peak is located at Agnew Meadow, a short distance off CA203. This road has restricted access, as it is very narrow, one-lane in many places, yet quite popular. The road has been under construction over the past several years to alleviate this state of affairs. By car you can enter before 7:00a or after 7:00p. During other daylight times you must take the shuttle bus. Once your car is inside, you can leave at anytime. Check with the Park Service if you need more information. For a day hike this restriction is not usually problematic, as you are likely to want an early start anyways. There is a NP fee (per vehicle) for entering the Devils Postpile area. Camping is available at Agnew Meadows and other locations inside Devils Postpile NM, but reservations are highly recommended in summer.

The first few miles head downhill until you cross the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin. You will enjoy this uphill section on the return at the end of the day. :) We will leave the main trail at Lake Ediza, though there are many options when it comes to approaching this peak.

Other Challenge peaks in this area include Mt Ritter, Clyde Minaret, Michael Minaret, Waller Minaret and Banner Peak. Bonus peaks might include Neglected Peak, Mt Davis, among many others.

6a start from the trailhead at Agnew Meadow parking lot.
