Cirque Crest - 12,178 ft.

Thu. Jul 30 (4a start)

RT Distance: 29 miles

Elev. Gain: 11,200 ft.

Cirque Crest is an officially named feature located deep within Kings Canyon National Park. This crest stands between Marion Peak and Mt Ruskin, just a short distance from Cartridge Pass. There are two main peaks that adorn the Cirque Crest, Peak 12,158 and Peak 12,173. One must climb both to receive full challenge credit. From Taboose Pass Trailhead, follow the trail up and over Taboose Pass. An old trail used to follow the Kings River downstream, though it's not clear if this trail exists anymore. Around the 11 mile mark, the old trail will start climbing again towards Cartridge Pass. The first peak is a short distance from the pass to the west. The second peak is a half mile further to the southwest.

Other Challenge peaks in this area include Vennacher Needle, Mt Ruskin and Staghorn Peak. Bonus peaks might include Arrow Peak or Recliner Peak, among many others.

4a start from Taboose Pass TH.
