Johnson Peak West is an unofficially named peak located west of the officially named Johnson Peak deep in the Golden Trout Wilderness. This outing will be long but not too hard. From Cottonwood Pass Trailhead, climb up and over Cottonwood Pass and descend to Big Whitney Meadow below. Continue due west towards the saddle between Johnson Peak and Boreal Plateau, and then again to the saddle between Boreal Plateau and Johnson West.
Other Challenge peaks in this area include Johnson Peak, Golden Trout Peak and The Major General. Bonus peaks might include Boreal Plateau, Trail Peak or Smatko Peak, among many others.
