Williamson Creek Peak is an unofficially named peak that divides Shepherd Creek and Williamson Creek in Inyo National Forest. This peak has only one registered ascent. From Shepherd Pass Trailhead, hike all the way from the desert to the Sierra Crest. At the pass, follow class 2 slopes to the summit of Polychrome Peak. Descend east to the notch dividing Polychrome Peak and Williamson Creek Peak. Cross through the notch and make you way to the south side of Williamson Creek Peak above Williamson Creek. Wrap around and approach this peak from the southeast.
I have also drawn an alternate route, which has never been attempted to my knowledge. While this saves a considerable amount of distance, it may not even be possible to reach the peak this way, and it may also be downright dangerous. From Mahogany Flat, climb the endless boulder field and follow the northeast ridge to the summit.
Other Challenge peaks in this area include Courte-Echelle, Mt Keith or Tyndall West. Bonus peaks might include Polychrome Peak, Mt Williamson, Mt Tyndall, among many others.
6am start from Shepherd Pass Trailhead.
